Frankie's Everest Adventure

Frankie's Everest Adventure

Posted by Spotty Otter on 25th Mar 2024

Meet eight-year-old Frankie, a remarkable young adventurer who has already achieved incredible feats at such a tender age. Last year, Frankie made headlines as he became the youngest Briton to conquer Greece’s Mount Olympus. Not stopping there, he also completed the challenge of scaling all 214 Lake District Wainwrights, showcasing his determination and passion for outdoor exploration.

Now, Frankie is gearing up for his next monumental adventure: trekking to Mount Everest’s base camp. This ambitious journey is a testament to Frankie's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to pushing his limits. We saw Frankie on stage at the National Outdoor Expo at the weekend, where he graced the stage as the youngest key speaker alongside renowned personalities like Ben Fogle, and Jason Fox, he left everyone in awe with his inspiring story.

Last September when Frankie embarked on the ascent of Mount Olympus, not only as a personal challenge but also to raise funds for Wasdale Mountain Rescue, raising over £3000 in the process. And now, with his sights set on Everest's base camp, Frankie is once again using his passion for adventure to make a positive impact by raising money for the children’s charity Make-A-Wish UK.

Frankie's determination to reach new heights knows no bounds, as he dreams of one day becoming the youngest person in the world to summit Mount Everest. Despite the challenges and risks involved, Frankie remains undeterred, fuelled by his unwavering ambition and supported by his mother, Basia McMillan, a seasoned mountain guide.

Next week he will start a 12-day hike to Mount Everest’s base camp. We certainly don't think this is the last we will hear about Frankie, we believe you will succeed in your dreams one day.

“I would like to beat the record,” he said.

"It's always been my dream and we want to just at least get to base camp. I know it's not the top, but one day we'll be there."

Frankie's Mum said,

"We just have to give it our best,” she said. “We don't give up but if we are not feeling well we've pinky promised to each other that we're going to turn back because safety comes first."

The journey to Everest's base camp is no small feat, spanning over 130km across rugged terrain and reaching altitudes exceeding 5,000 meters. But with courage, perseverance, and a commitment to safety above all else, Frankie and his mother are ready to tackle this monumental challenge head-on.

As Frankie embarks on this epic adventure, the entire Spotty Otter team stands behind him, cheering him on every step of the way. We wish Frankie the best of luck and look forward to celebrating his incredible achievements as he continues to inspire us all with his remarkable courage and determination.
